Jesus’ early years

From my last post we read about the one in time supernatural birth of Jesus. I know it got you curious. What manner of man is Jesus? Well you know curiosity kills the cat but this time curiosity is going to refresh you, revive you and afterward prepare you for your happily ever after. What happened in Jesus’ early years?

Today we will be talking about his childhood… (After birth till adolescence)

So as we recall, Jesus was born in Bethlehem. And I had said earlier, the birth of the savior though anticipated by most, there were some who felt threatened and didn’t want it to come to pass. Matthew 2:1-23

Jesus was born in the town of Bethlehem in Judea, during the time when Herod was king. Soon afterward, some men who studied the stars came from the East to Jerusalem  and asked, “Where is the baby born to be the king of the Jews? We saw his star when it came up in the east, and we have come to worship him.” When King Herod heard about this, he was very upset, and so was everyone else in Jerusalem. He called together all the chief priests and the teachers of the Law and asked them, “Where will the Messiah be born?”

How would you feel if you were Jesus or God?  Would you be able to be the savior of such an ungrateful people? Would you be able to send your son to save such an ungrateful people? They were probably ungrateful because they were ignorant. But let me tell you something; God wasn’t looking at those ignorant people, he was looking at the learned ones.

So as we can see, the wise men were happy but King Herod wasn’t happy guess what he did….

So Herod called the visitors from the East to a secret meeting and found out from them the exact time the star had appeared. Then he sent them to Bethlehem with these instructions: “Go and make a careful search for the child; and when you find him, let me know, so that I too may go and worship him.”And so they left, and on their way they saw the same star they had seen in the East. When they saw it, how happy they were, what joy was theirs! It went ahead of them until it stopped over the place where the child was. They went into the house, and when they saw the child with his mother Mary, they knelt down and worshiped him. They brought out their gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh, and presented them to him.

You know as well as I do Herod’s intentions… but let’s not be quick to judge. Let’s keep reading.

Then they returned to their country by another road, since God had warned them in a dream not to go back to Herod.

After they had left, an angel of the Lord appeared in a dream to Joseph and said, “Herod will be looking for the child in order to kill him. So get up, take the child and his mother and escape to Egypt, and stay there until I tell you to leave.”

 God protects his own.

Told ya!!! God knew the heart of Herod. God knew his thoughts. But  this was all working to fulfill the prophecy….

Joseph got up, took the child and his mother, and left during the night for Egypt, 15 where he stayed until Herod died. This was done to make come true what the Lord had said through the prophet, “I called my Son out of Egypt.”

I don’t know but am I the only who is drooling over this ever alluring story… Or over this man called Jesus? The story feels magical… let’s continue;

So Joseph, Mary and Jesus went to Egypt and stayed there until Herod died. After Herod’s death they moved to Nazareth. You can call him Jesus of Nazareth.

And made his home in a town named Nazareth. And so what the prophets had said came true: “He will be called a Nazarene.”

Every year Jesus’ parents went to Jerusalem for the Festival of the Passover. 42 When he was twelve years old, they went up to the festival, according to the custom. 43 after the festival was over, while his parents were returning home, the boy Jesus stayed behind in Jerusalem, but they were unaware of it. 44 Thinking he was in their company, they traveled on for a day. Then they began looking for him among their relatives and friends. 45 When they did not find him, they went back to Jerusalem to look for him.

46 after three days they found him in the temple courts, sitting among the teachers, listening to them and asking them questions. 47 Everyone who heard him was amazed at his understanding and his answers. 48 When his parents saw him, they were astonished. His mother said to him, “Son, why have you treated us like this? Your father and I have been anxiously searching for you.”

49 “Why were you searching for me?” he asked. “Didn’t you know I had to be in my Father’s house?”[a] 50 But they did not understand what he was saying to them.

5Then he went down to Nazareth with them and was obedient to them. But his mother treasured all these things in her heart. 52 And Jesus grew in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and man.

God’s will for us is to grow in wisdom and stature and in favor with God and man. The childhood of Jesus isn’t a fiction; it’s true and real, if you are following this blogs I believe you are wondering what manner of man is this but this is what john said.

“And there are also many other things which Jesus did, which if they were recorded one by one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that would be written.”
