Birth of Jesus

Imagine your birth was foreseen and foretold by renowned men of God to a certain people. It was said that you would be the savior of that entire race. So everyone was looking forward to your coming, while some were feeling excited and couldn’t wait, others were feeling threatened. Yeah it so happened that you were the descendant of the choicest and purest should I say handpicked vessels of God. You must be feeling special.

There have been many important births since the dawn of humanity. Consider the births of great scientists, Great men of God, Great humanitarians and the birth of You and Me. However, one birth stands far above the rest. It is the most important birth there ever was or ever will be. It is the birth of JESUS.

Jesus is special. Many prophets prophesied about his birth. Prophet Isaiah did in isaiah7:14.  The prophet Isaiah addresses the “HOUSE OF DAVID” meaning the family and descendants of   King   David, and   speaks of   a virgin being pregnant with child. Isaiah said this in the context of it being a sign from God. He also says that the child will be referred to as “Immanuel” which means God with us.  Prophet Micah too in Micah 5:1-2, there is a   prophecy that reveals that Bethlehem would be the birthplace of   the messiah. Jacob also prophesied in Genesis 49:10 to his son Judah that his descendants will be rulers and one of his descendant   will be an ultimate ruler. Jesus was born 2000 years after Jacob died. Jesus ancestry was traced back to Judah in Luke3:23-34, Matthew 1:1-16 and many more; I could go on.

The bible tells us that Jesus was born in the fullness of time, Jesus birth took place at a time in history GOD chose. He had promised humanity a savior in Genesis3:15; and then set about to prepare humanity for the savior’s arrival. God’s providence had arranged the birth of the savior in that stable on that night. The birth of the one who would give his life to pay for our sins.

Jesus was born to a woman called Mary who was engaged to Joseph a Carpenter, in Bethlehem. Mary was a Virgin. I imagine you are like “How is that possible”

just so you know Impossibility is God’s specialty.

Luke1:26-38 tells us the story of the angel Gabriel’s visit to Mary. This must have been quite unnerving for Mary, except that Mary is a really wonderful lady. But imagine if it was you. A virgin has   been chosen to give birth to the savior of the world. Mary was initially frightened until Gabriel told her she had found favor with God. Gabriel explained to her that she would conceive a child by the power of the Holy Spirit. The conception of Jesus was a one-time event that was unique in all of history.

The angel told Mary a few things about her soon to be son:

He was to be called “JESUS” Luke1:31

He would be great and be called the son of the Most High.  Luke1:32

God will give Him the Throne of David.  Luke 1:32

There will be no end to his kingdom.  Luke 1:33

He will be called the Son of God.  Luke1:35

Gabriel assured Mary these things will surely take place because as I said Luke1:37 “nothing will be impossible with God”. Mary humbled herself to the will of God. Wait a minute! What happens to Joseph?

At this time Joseph  and Mary were engaged to be married. In their culture they didn’t  have anything like dating, friends with benefit etc like what we have now instead it was more like marriage except without sexual relations.  So when Joseph found out he was probably very confused and he decided to divorce  Mary silently.

However, God had other plans for Joseph. In Matthew1:18-25, an angel appeared  to Joseph in a dream reassuring him that Mary’s pregnancy was a gift from God and that he should go ahead and marry Mary.

Caesar Augustus called for a census of all those dwelling in his realm. People were to move to Bethlehem to partake in the census. Joseph and Mary inclusive who were initially at Nazareth. As you can see this was to fulfill the prophecy of his place of birth. Jesus was born in Bethlehem . Since this was the time of the census, people were howling into Bethlehem. For some reason Joseph and Mary couldn’t  find a suitable accommodation .They had found a stable. Then the time came for Jesus to be born. He was delivered safely and placed in a manger. I believe you are shocked on how a man so Great can be born in a place like that. It depicts humility. The greatest man ever existed had a humble birth.

WE SEE THE MOTIVE IN Hebrews 2:17.

“Therefore he had to be made like his brothers in every respect, so that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in the service of God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people”.

My next blog will be on Jesus childhood. More Exciting Things to know about this man. Allow your heart to absorb these things and trust me soon you will be head over heels in love with him.  Stay Blessed.
